Grounded in justice, equity, and community.

Over the course of my career, I have worked alongside non-profits, philanthropic organizations, credit unions, cooperatives, and community groups to help them navigate complexity and achieve meaningful impact.

My work is grounded in a commitment to justice, equity, community leadership, and decolonization. I bring both strategic thinking and practical experience to the challenges organizations face today.

Elisabeth Geller, Principal Consultant
Elisabeth Geller
"Elisabeth Geller is a rare strategist who turns complex ideas into meaningful action. I worked closely with her at Vancity on initiatives related to innovative homeownership, living wage, financial inclusion, DEI, and innovative granting across grassroots and established nonprofits. She is deeply attuned to the realities facing equity-deserving communities and consistently drives practical, well-designed solutions that deliver real impact."
"I worked closely with Elisabeth for many years and learned so much from her. She is strategic and also pragmatic. She understands the mechanics of creating and running a large-scale granting program while understanding what it feels like to be a grant applicant. She works hard to ensure that her programs are easy to both administer and access. I think any organization would benefit from Elisabeth's deep experience and knowledge."
"Elisabeth brings a thoughtful and relational approach to her work. Her deep commitment to equity and justice, along with her ability to listen carefully and connect with people, helps to foster meaningful collaboration. She also brings a genuine, decades-long commitment to the health and strength of the nonprofit sector, grassroots movements, and the many people working and volunteering in communities. I have trusted Elisabeth with overseeing Indigenous-led projects and work and she has demonstrated active allyship to Indigenous peoples and communities."

"I had the pleasure of working closely with Elisabeth during our time together at the Vancouver Foundation, where she was part of my team. Elisabeth is one of those rare colleagues who can step into almost any challenge and make it better — a true "Swiss Army knife." She brings strong project management and execution skills, along with a deep understanding of strategy, grantmaking, research, and people management.

Elisabeth combines a results-oriented mindset with a thoughtful grasp of how social change actually happens. She also brings a high level of self-awareness, humility, and deep reflection to her work, which makes her an exceptional collaborator and leader. And she has a wonderful sense of humor that makes working through complex challenges together a joy. Elisabeth is the person you hire first when you have the opportunity!"

"Elisabeth Geller stands out for the breadth of her professional experience and her deep commitment to social and economic justice. I've been consistently impressed by how Elisabeth perceptively navigates complex systems, power dynamics, and challenges that often feel stuck or unsolvable. She works brilliantly with grassroots and institutional leaders, bringing a rare mix of knowledge, insight, and pragmatism to everything she does. For organizations, foundations, collaborations and movements ready to stretch their thinking and operationalize their values for real impact, Elisabeth is an ideal partner."

Community Trust & Collaborative Work

I've worked with community groups, collaborations, coalitions, movements, and social impact organizations (including cooperatives and credit unions) both in Canada and overseas to advance justice, equity, decolonization, leadership, and innovation.

I've been privileged to work for and with systemically marginalized communities, including 2SLBGTQIA+, women and gender diverse folks, Indigenous peoples, immigrants and refugees, neurodivergent folks, seniors, people with different abilities, and low income people, among others.

Past Roles

At Vancity Credit Union, I worked in innovation leadership, enterprise planning, and community investment, building flexible strategic and operational plans for the organization to create a more sustainable and just future economy.

I worked internationally with the Canadian Cooperative Association and with Mercy Corps in Cambodia, Ghana, Uganda and southern Africa including Botswana, Zimbabwe and South Africa, integrating credit unions and local cooperatives to build stronger regional economies and supporting food security, economic justice and gender inclusion.

Most recently, I was the Director, Strategic Granting at the Vancouver Foundation. I was responsible for leading a team of talented grant makers to distribute more than $40M annually to support systems change, justice and equity work in communities who have been systemically marginalized, including Indigenous communities.

Approach, Values & Working Philosophy

My consulting work is grounded in values-driven leadership and a practical understanding of how organizations function in complex environments.

I support non-profits, charities, philanthropic organizations, and for-profit organizations to achieve the community impact they are seeking.

I bring more than two decades of experience in community leadership and organizational strategy, and I aim to be a trusted advisor to leaders and boards working through complex and changing circumstances.

Several values guide the way I approach this work:

Humility & Curiosity

Centering 'nothing about us without us', listening and collaboration

Integrity

Honesty even when messages and decisions are difficult

Clarity

Working with organizations to move through complexity and change

Pragmatism

Building strong operational plans that are flexible, responsive and impactful

Above all, I aim to help organizations find clarity, build practical strategies, and move forward with purpose.

Let's Connect

I live on the traditional, ancestral territory of the Tseycum and Tsawout peoples with my wife. Together, we have 5 grown children who don’t visit as much as we would like.

I love the Oxford comma and think allyship should always be a verb.

I’d love to chat with you about your own work in community and how I can contribute to it.
